EU's focus on Iran's nuclear program diverts attention from escalating crises in Gaza and Lebanon

TEHRAN (Defapress) - The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency is one of the two policy-making bodies of the IAEA, along with the General Assembly. It consists of 35 members and typically convenes five times a year (in March and June, twice in September - before and after the General Assembly - and in December).

Each member of the Board of Governors holds one vote. 13 members are elected by the previous Board of Governors and usually come from developed countries in the field of nuclear energy. 20 members are elected by the General Assembly based on regional quotas.

The Board of Governors has different regional quotas. Latin America has 5 quotas, Western Europe has 4 quotas, Eastern Europe has 3 quotas, Africa has 4 quotas, the Middle East and South Asia have 2 quotas, Southeast Asia and the Pacific have 1 quota, and the Far East has 1 quota, making a total of 20 members. Additionally, 2 other members are elected on a rotating basis from among developing countries.

The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency is going to decide Iran's nuclear activities while Iran is still adhering to its JCPOA commitments. Based on the JCPOA, Iran stands on its words toward its peaceful nuclear activities. Despite the external pressures, Iran remains steadfast in its position of having peaceful nuclear activities. The Supreme Leader’s directive to prioritize civilian nuclear development has remained unchanged, and Iran continues to assert that it has the right to develop its nuclear infrastructure under the terms of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

Hidden Reason behind Upcoming Resolution against Iran  

But it seems that the EU is pursuing another hidden reason behind the upcoming resolution, to pressure Iran to reconsider its strategic relations with Russia and support resistance groups fighting against Zionist oppression. Earlier, the EU had also imposed sanctions in response to this reason, citing the false claim of sending ballistic missiles to Russia. Even the President of Ukraine claimed that there was no evidence that Iran had sent ballistic missiles to Russia. This shows that all these accusations are based on false data and the illusion that EU officials suffer from.

EU Should Focus on Broader Regional Issues

The European Union’s growing emphasis on Iran’s nuclear program and its military dealings with Russia might be seen as a diversion from the pressing issues in the Middle East, especially the ongoing humanitarian crises in Gaza and Lebanon. With tensions escalating in these regions, the EU’s shift in focus toward Iran could be criticized as a failure to address more immediate and urgent concerns.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with thousands of civilians affected by the ongoing Zionist invasion. Similarly, instability in Lebanon, fueled by the Zionist attack on Southern Lebanon and Dahiya in Beirut caused severe humanitarian crises in the Middle East which needs serious action. Rather than focusing on a narrative surrounding Iran’s nuclear and military activities, the EU must ensure it is not overlooking its responsibility to address these larger, more pressing regional challenges. By diverting attention away from the humanitarian crises in Gaza and Lebanon and redirecting it toward misinformation about Iran, the EU risks exacerbating regional instability.

Conclusion

EU must remember that it's not a puppet for the US and Israel's desire. It's an independent coalition that must act more beneficial than what is now doing which is nothing more than a paralyzed coalition caught in the quagmire of the Russia-Ukraine war.

Now the US is like a sinking ship and the Biden administration is ending within 2 months, also the Trump administration would not let the EU act more independently, seems that is a chance for them to rebuild their forgotten identity in the world and act more active and be more effective in crises around the world, especially in the Middle East.
